In particular, in regions that endure extreme climates, Kunhwa undertakes pre-emptive action to prevent pavement distress and failures caused by wide temperature fluctuations with applying the concept of zero maintenance pavement.

Kunhwa, as a pioneer of engineering innovation in the road sector, is putting a lot of efforts into designing human-centered roads and airport infrastructures for future industries such as smart road management system and eco-friendly roads.

Kunhwa offers diverse solutions for intercity railway, high-speed railway, mass rapid transit, and light rail transit systems. We are particularly keen to select efficient and financially viable transit systems that are suitable for local conditions, including socio-economic and environmental conditions. Seoul Metro Line 9 project has proven that not only we can overcome difficult site conditions, but also create cultural hotspots and bring people together. Kunhwa’s achievements in intercity and hi-speed rails represent a testament to our specialized expertise in public transportation facilities. Moreover, we help clients cope with the ever-increasing urban traffic congestion that results from rapid urbanization, particularly in developing countries.

Based on the experiences accumulated from numerous construction supervision projects, our bridge and structural engineers seek to maximize the essential elements of practicality, functional efficiency, environmental integration, esthetic appearance and cost-effectiveness. Kunhwa’s expertise is on display throughout Korea on many iconic bridges and underground structures, as part of the nation’s modern highway system.

Kunhwa takes a holistic approach to the process of defining goals and devising long-term plans for urban transport systems. The BRT system is one of the cost-effective alternatives for revitalizing urban areas and improving traffic flow in over-populated cities. Kunhwa has implemented a series of R&D programs to develop advanced technologies for multi-modal transport transfer complexes and intelligent transport systems (ITS), such as smart highway network and electronic toll collection systems. In particular, Kunhwa has designed numerous larger-scaled intermodal transit centers recognized as landmarks and it has led Kunhwa to secure a competitive advantage in the intermodal transit center and BRT (Bus Raid Transit) projects. Kunhwa’s BRT and ITS projects showcase how intelligent and eco-friendly traffic management can and should be.

Kunhwa’s activities include planning and design of passenger, container and ferry terminals, harbors, and ports, including fishing ports. In addition, our expertise covers cargo marshaling and handling facilities and intermodal transport systems as well. Kunhwa’s planning, designing, and operation of harbors and ports are also unparalleled in that we integrate harbor facilities. We also provide design of harbor facilities, integrating with GPS-based port logistics information systems and technology for the real-time monitoring and control of cargo and container movements.

Through our extensive involvement in numerous major infrastructure projects in Korea, Kunhwa has accumulated a wealth of geotechnical experience and expertise in dealing with difficult and complex foundations that may be in critical condition. In addition to working on geotechnical designs, we also believe that underground space is a new frontier to develop as an environment for culture and commerce; we are currently involved with an ambitious project, planning a huge underground cultural, commercial, and multi-modal transport exchange complex in one of the busiest districts in Seoul.
